OVERVIEW

Length: 24 hours/ 3 days

Max # of students: 10 students

This course will assist students in identifying fall hazards and best practices in identifying and eliminating predictable slip, trip, and fall hazards.

This course meets the Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health, and Environmental Training (ANSI Z490.1), the requirements of ANSI Z359 and ANSI A10.32, and EM385.

 All students will participate in classroom, hands-on instruction, and student-performed exercises that will cover:

  • USACE, ANSI, manufacturer, and all applicable regulations regarding the proper inspection, care, maintenance, storage, and documentation of fall protection equipment
  • Order of Control Measures
  • Fall Restraint vs. Fall Arrest criteria
  • Fall clearance and swing fall calculations
  • Roles and responsibilities of Authorized Person and Competent Person
  • Hazard evaluation, identification, and elimination
  • Requirements of rescue
  • Proper donning of Fall Protection equipment
  • Understand the importance of Fall Protection Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA)
  • Equipment selection and evaluation
  • Selection and use of certified and non-certified anchors
  • Fall Protection for aerial lifts and ladders

Course Objectives:

Upon completion, the student will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the following topics:

  • Understanding of the EM385 Fall Protection rules
  • Proper inspection and documentation of fall protection equipment
  • Knowledge necessary to fill the role of Competent Person in Fall Protection
  • Understanding of the proper procedures and tools required for
  • Fall Restraint and Fall Arrest
  • Proper anchor selection
  • The ability to create a safe “at-heights” work environment and protect workers

Participants will receive:

  • Competent Person wall certificate, wallet card, and sticker
  • Extensive Fall Protection knowledge and understanding
  • Individual Fall Protection workbook and student materials
  • Direct support from the Guardian training team and Guardian Fall customer service
