FIRST Choice Training - Guardian Fall Protection

Some changes that you will see along the way are from new faces to our highly skilled team such as the addition of John Yoblonski to our team based out of our corporate headquarters. We will also be adding additional trainers in both our Ohio and Massachusetts locations all with the premise of being able to better access and accommodate our growing customer base and continue to be a leader in the industry.

With the addition of other safety professionals to the department, it will only serve to enhance the depth of the team and add new flavors to the message regarding the proper way to navigate the terrain of working aloft. Combined with the forthcoming growth, our goal will be to offer more availability to the F.I.R.S.T. Choice Training through more regularly scheduled classes at our Guardian locations, the addition of partner sites in new locations, and some online training offerings so that the quality education provided can be more readily available to those who need and desire to be part of the solution and culture of working at heights safely and productively.

Of course, we will still have the talents and expertise of our Training Coordinator Arissa Mendiola, along with the rest of the team in our salesforce, customer service, production, quality control, manufacturer reps, and valued distributors; all with the ultimate goal of helping those who work at heights and work with those who do go home safely at the end of the day to enjoy the fruits of their labors and most importantly their families.

Stay tuned for more exciting things to come and of course, stay safe.

Director of Training - Douglas Boehm

My name is Douglas Boehm and I am the new Director of Training for F.I.R.S.T. Choice Training, the training arm of Guardian Fall Protection. Prior to my appointment as the director my tenure at Guardian has allowed me to be the National Training Instructor and when I first joined this incredible company the Project Manager for our Engineered Services Group (ESG) at the beginning stages of building that department.

During my tenure here at Guardian Fall Protection I have had the opportunity to work with some incredible folks within the organization as well as many of our partners and valued end users. I have gotten to watch and help our company continue to grow and progress as a leader in the work at heights community.

I am extremely excited for the opportunity to serve as the Training Director. Although many will see some changes in the department in both roles and offerings in the future, our future looks bright. In this new role, I will have the opportunity to help the company and training specifically grow and reach new heights and truly affect the part of the company vision to educate the community to continue to assist those that work in such a hazardous work environment go home safe.

Trainer - John Yoblonski

I come to F.I.R.S.T. Choice Training and Guardian Fall Protection with more than 20 years’ experience in training, safety management, and enthusiasm for safeguarding the well-being of those that I interact with. I wholeheartedly stand behind the concept that sustained training is paramount for an accident free workplace and the overall safety of its employees.

My experience includes serving in the United States Navy and Coast Guard, specializing in Search and Rescue Operations where I was meritoriously recognized for my maritime service. While I was stationed in Hawaii, I started my own catering company (after having learned the ropes at the prestigious Halakulani and Royal Hawaiian Hotels), and eventually opened a small night-crowd focused restaurant.

My retirement from the military was postponed after the September 11th attacks. I was recalled to active duty and found myself in Yorktown VA, as part of the Standardization Team, which travelled the world teaching proper safety practices and search and rescue operations. As if I wasn't busy enough, I continued my culinary endeavors by creating the Hungry Men’s Poker Party, and got a Master’s of Aeronautical Science at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

My final tour of duty with the Coast Guard sent me to Seattle, where I continued to work with the Standardization Team, specializing in hazardous materials, CPR, and First Aid. From there, I moved into port Security Operations teaching safety training and container inspections. In 2015, I headed back to school once again and received my Master’s of Education at George Washington University.

Training Coordinator - Arissa Mendiola

arissa mendiola500h

My name is Arissa Mendiola, Training Coordinator of F.I.R.S.T. Choice Training a Division of Guardian Fall Protection. I have been with Guardian since February of 2013. Before Guardian, I was working at a Copy and Print Center where I connected with the Director of Training. At the time, I was responsible for printing all of Guardian’s training material (workbooks, tests, wallet cards, etc.). With some familiarity with the training material, I applied for the Training Assistant position and the rest is history.

F.I.R.S.T. Choice training’s division of Guardian has evolved into one of the leaders of Fall Protection training. Along with the division, my position with everyday operations has grown into an elaborate and fulfilling job. Coming from no previous fall protection background, I’ve learned an immense amount about fall protection, and the safety industry as a whole. My position involves all the “behind the scenes” work for our training courses. Some of my responsibilities include registration procedures, order entry, purchasing of training equipment/materials, shipping and receiving of training materials, as well as coordination of all in-house and offsite training courses just to name a few.

Guardian’s mission is to provide innovative solutions and educate the community to protect the workforce and save lives. Our mission is what makes working for F.I.R.S.T. Choice Training so fulfilling. I’ve worked with passionate trainers, whose main focus is to educate their students so they go home to their families each night. That’s why we do what we do; we want our students to walk out of our class with the knowledge to keep them safe. Even though we are a Division of Guardian Fall Protection, our sole purpose during training is not to sell Guardian products; our goal is to sell safety.
